This is the most uncomfortable question anyone has to ask on the worst day of their life. We decided to answer it plainly and with numbers: what a funeral in Uzbekistan actually costs in 2026, what is set by the state, what is set by the market, and where families most often pay extra simply because nobody told them.
The short answer: 5–15 million UZS for a modest funeral in Tashkent, and 3–8 million in regional cities. The upper end is bounded only by budget — a premium format in the capital easily reaches 30 million and beyond, and almost all of that difference sits in the memorial meal and the monument, not the burial itself.
The scale nobody talks about. According to the National Statistics Committee, 177,104 people died in Uzbekistan in 2025. That is roughly 480 families a day doing this arithmetic — almost always for the first time, in shock, within 24 hours, with no price list in front of them. That is exactly why the same service can cost three times more in one neighbourhood than the next.
What is fixed and state-regulated. Death registration and the certificate at the civil registry (ЗАГС) — a state fee of about 15,300 UZS. A burial plot is provided free by law. Cemetery work tariffs are approved by the city mayor: in Tashkent the order of 8 August 2023 sets grave digging at 60,000–150,000 UZS for Muslims and 60,000–120,000 for other faiths, and coffin manufacture at 220,000–1,560,000 depending on model.
And here is the gap worth understanding. The official grave-digging tariff caps at 150,000 UZS. What families actually pay gravediggers in Tashkent is 300,000–700,000, rising to a million in winter when the ground is frozen. Part is the tariff, part is an informal «thank you» nobody documents. Knowing the official figure is not about arguing — it is about knowing where you stand relative to normal.
The state funeral benefit. Many families never claim it, simply because they do not know it exists. The amount is 4 × the pension calculation base (БВИП). From 1 July 2026 that base is 504,000 UZS, making the benefit about 2,016,000 UZS. Apply at any Khalq Bank branch or online via my.gov.uz. You need the death certificate and the recipient's passport. It is granted and paid the same day. The deadline is 60 days from the date of death, and the claimant does not have to be a relative — any person who took on the burial qualifies. The base is indexed, so check the current figure before applying.
