Andijan mirrors Namangan in cost structure: cheap services, a strong mahalla, an expensive dastarkhan. Two features stand out — its border position and a very high share of families with someone working abroad.
The overall level. Services in Andijan run 30–40% below Tashkent. Ghusl, grave digging, plov and dishes usually come through the mahalla. Separate funeral bureaus exist, but most families manage without them — not out of poverty, but because that is how it is done here.
The official part. Death registration fee — about 15,300 UZS. A plot is free by law. Cemetery tariffs are approved by the regional mayor; Tashkent's 2023 order (60,000–150,000 UZS for grave digging) works as an upper bound. The state benefit is 4 × the pension base — about 2,016,000 UZS from 1 July 2026.
Real figures. Kafan — 120,000–400,000 UZS. Grave digging — 150,000–350,000. In-city transport — 200,000–450,000. A Muslim burial — 0.8–1.7 million UZS. The benefit covers this part entirely.
The wake. A ma'raka for 150–250 is the norm. Plov by the mahalla: 2.5–5.5 million UZS with own produce. With catering or a serviced toykhana: 7–14 million. This is the decision that sets the total.
The 2026 bottom line for Andijan. Modest format: 2–3 million UZS. Traditional format with a wide ma'raka: 5.5–11 million. The monument is separate: simple slab from 700,000; engraved granite 2–7 million.
Border specifics. Andijan region borders Kyrgyzstan's Osh region, and some families are split by the border. If the death occurred in the neighbouring state, a medical death certificate, a certificate of no contraindication to transport, and consular processing are required. The road corridor is short, but the documents are still mandatory — a body cannot be moved «neighbourly».
If the death happened abroad at work. In 2024, 483 citizens' bodies were returned to Uzbekistan, 474 from Russia, the rest from Turkey, Korea and Kazakhstan. The state covers a substantial share. Contact the consulate and the Migration Agency within the first day, before the mahalla collects money. Repatriation from Korea reaches $9,000 — the case where organising it yourself is especially ruinous.
For families abroad. Our Andijan requests come almost entirely from relatives in Russia, Korea and Kazakhstan: find the grave and confirm it with photos and GPS, install a monument, put the plot in order for the anniversary, arrange plov on a date. The funeral itself is best left to the mahalla.
