«Hidden costs» are the main risk of remote grave care. The contractor announces one price and then «discovers» more is needed. The diaspora family can't physically check — agrees. This article: typical schemes and how to defend.
Scheme 1: «Determined on-site». The contractor publishes prices like «cleaning from 200,000 soum» («from» can mean significantly more). After visiting — «turns out you have lots of weeds, need another 300,000». Defense: fixed prices only, with full tariff matrix published. We don't have «from» prices — we have «up to» (if work is less, we refund the difference).
Scheme 2: «Transport extra». Standard cleaning $50, plus «travel» $30, plus «fuel» $10, plus «cemetery parking» $5. On paper $50, in reality $95. Defense: everything in one tariff; no separate line items for «transport» or «parking».
Scheme 3: «Plot complexity only just discovered». Family said «ordinary grave with one monument»; contractor arrived and says «turns out you have 3 stones and 5 shrubs — complexity 2×». Defense: pre-photo of plot from family (or from our search archive); fixed cost with no recalc without agreement.
Scheme 4: «Extra materials». «Flowers more expensive than estimated»; «special stone chemical needed»; «more water needed for hot day». Defense: price includes all base materials; rare extras require pre-purchase agreement.
Scheme 5: «Seasonal surcharge». Price jumps 30% for Radonitsa or May 9 «because lots of orders». Defense: annual subscription price fixed on signing; peak-date one-offs can be +25% at pre-announced rate.
Scheme 6: «Rush fee». Family requests «in time for 40-day in 4 days», contractor adds 50% without warning. Defense: rush max +25%, only by written agreement before work starts.
Our public terms. All prices at `/tseny` are fixed «up to». Any deviation needs written client agreement BEFORE extra work. Refund guarantee for work simpler than estimated (10 years, no client has regretted).
What to ask any contractor. (1) Are all prices public? (2) «From» or fixed? (3) All materials and transport included? (4) Seasonal/rush surcharges? (5) What if work is simpler than plan?
